LAWRENCE OF ARABIA

Writer, spy, adventurer and British officer, Thomas Edward Lawrence, known as Lawrence of Arabia, is one of England's most famous men. David Lean's film contributes to his legend.

The film opens on an SS100 from Brough Superior. A man walks up to her and prepares her. He puts on his glasses, climb on her and go away in the English countryside. The SS100's engine purrs and the driver smile as he accelerates. Suddenly, at the end of the bend, he is in front of two cyclists, Lawrence of Arabia turn the handlebars, but the accident is inescapable. The scene ends with the glasses attached to a branch, with the SS100's rear wheel turning in a vacuum.

T.E. Lawrence died 6 days later. Great lover of luxury motorcycles, he had acquired 7 SS100s from BS. He had a real attachment to them and named them Georges 1 to 7 in tribute to Georges Brough.

George Bernard Shaw was an Irish playwright, essayist and screenwriter. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1925. Passionate about Brough Superior, father figure for T.E. Lawrence, he introduced him to BS motorcycles and bought him the SS100, Georges VI, in the 1930s. The two men exchanged intense correspondence and T.E. Lawrence served as inspiration for his characters on several occasions.
